Anne Hathaway attends the Bulgari Mediterranea High Jewelry event at Palazzo Ducale on May 16 2023

Anne Hathaway joined Zendaya, Blackpink’s Lisa, and Priyanka Chopra for a Bulgari party in Venice on Tuesday evening at the Palazzo Ducale, and she dressed on theme for the event: the actor was quite literally dripping in sparkles. As an ambassador for the fine jewelry house, Hathaway naturally has access to some of the most incredible pieces in the world, and she selected a spectacular chain necklace with large red stones for the event.

Hathaway went all in on the metallics, opting for a sequin gown by Versace which graduated from gold to silver beading and had a daring thigh-high slit, revealing her silver mirrored platform heels. Hathaway’s gown also featured a dramatic hood detail, which framed her face and deliberately drew the eye to that show-stopping Bulgari necklace.

Hoods have become something of a red-carpet signature for the actor, who wore a hooded black Alaïa bodysuit to the Berlin Film Festival in February of this year and a golden hooded gown by Ralph Lauren to the Met Gala back in 2015. At the time Hathaway explained why this makes her feel so powerful on the red carpet: “I actually feel weirdly confident having a hood over my head. There’s something protective about it. If someone asks me a question I don’t like, I can pull down the hoodie and just walk away.”

Hathaway and her stylist Erin Walsh deliberately took her style in a more adventurous direction around the time of her 40th birthday. “I think many kinds of styles of look work when you embrace your inner confidence to pull it off,” Walsh previously told Vogue. “Annie is literally glowing. That doesn’t just come from clothes. It comes through stepping into your potential and embracing possibility.”

One person who has taken notice of Hathaway’s more adventurous approach to styling is Donatella Versace, who this year selected Hathaway as the face of her Versace Icons collection. Last night’s beaded number is just the latest in a series of stand-out Versace looks Hathaway has worn this year, including the ivory tweed safety pin gown they created together for the Met Gala.
