Catherine, Princess of Wales Wore Alexander McQueen To The King's Coronation

At the request of the King and Queen, William, Prince of Wales, and Catherine, Princess of Wales wore formal robes and mantels for his Coronation on Saturday (May 6).

The Royal Victorian Order mantle was a symbol of her status as a Dame Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order which was bestowed upon her by Queen Elizabeth back in 2019.

You will either love how the robe added to the pomp and ceremony of it all or wish to have seen more of her Alexander McQueen gown.

At first glance it appeared to be just an ivory silk crepe gown embellished with silver bullion and thread work embroidery, but there was more than meets the eye because the rose, thistle, daffodil and shamrock motifs signified the four nations of the UK.

There was much confusion when the official portrait was released because the neckline of Catherine’s dress had changed.

I think Catherine either wore a cape or a bolero earlier in the day which had a higher neckline over the dress.

Many people were expecting Catherine to wear a tiara, but she opted for a Jess Collet x Alexander McQueen headpiece which consisted of a regal arrangement of shimmering silver bullion, crystal, and silver thread leaf embroidery that formed a point above her head.

Catherine paid homage to Princess Diana by wearing the same pearl and diamond earrings the then Prince Charles gifted to her before their wedding in 1981.

The look was complete with her favourite Gianvito Rossi pumps in white.

This wasn’t supposed to be a noteworthy fashion event for Catherine, as she was fulfilling a role, which is why I found myself more excited by some of the guests’ attire at this event.
