Kim Kardashian Brought North West to the Met Gala…Well, to the Car to the Met Gala

I begged my dad to leave me in the car doing homework rather than accompany him inside the supermarket, so I get it, but also, huh. Kim Kardashian brought her oldest daughter North West to New York for the Met Gala on Monday, May 1, even though presumably the nine-year-old…has school? Since kids are persona non grata at the event since 2018, the youngster had to wait in the car while her mom walked the iconic steps in a custom Schiaparelli pearl outfit, and then, one assumes, went back to the hotel to chill with her nanny while Kim Kardashian was inside.

For the all-important walk from the hotel to the car, Miss West found her own way to honor the night’s theme, “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” in a vintage Chanel jacket and jeans, per People. She also carried the same Chanel conch shell clutch her mom wore a few days earlier.

This is not a coincidence. As writer Emily Kirkpatrick wrote in her (very good) fashion and pop culture newsletter The Mess just four days ago, “Kim was also working overtime this week to launch North unto the public. With North deciding to shutter her TikTok, which was going to be the family’s toehold on that platform, the traditional branding and promotion of her eldest child has officially begun in earnest. First we got the mother-daughter step-and-repeat at the Fashion Los Angeles Awards…Kim followed up that red carpet appearance by posting a photo of North wearing an Aaliyah t-shirt…while illuminated by this James Turrell installation…with this image, it’s almost like she’s gifting… [artistic masterpieces] to her daughter to start her branding journey off on the right foot.” And if you think Emily or I are overthinking this, consider the very real possibility of a North West skincare brand sometime in the near future. The devil works hard, but the KarJenner daughter branding machine works harder!

Anyway, she looks nice, and again, she is nine.
