Ramata-Toulaye SY Wore Chanel To The 'Banel E Adama' Cannes Film Festival Premiere

‘Banel et Adama,’ a Senegalese village love story with echoes of Romeo and Juliet served as a directorial debut for Ramata-Toulaye SY who attended the films premiere during Cannes Film Festival on Saturday, alongside the stars of the film Khady Mane and Mamadou Diallo.

While the actors wore traditional African garments, the Senegalese film director wore a suit from the Chanel Pre-Fall 2023 collection.

What I adore about her multi-colour tweed suit which was embroidered with sequins, is that it matches the energy, and style to some degree, of the actors’ panelled looks.

We know that female directors tend to wear suits (unless you’re Rebecca Hall or Olivia Wilde) to either set themselves apart from the stars of the film, or to present a look that suggests leadership and authority.

Suits can have a reputation for being drab, stuffy, and dull, but this is simply not the case here.

Ramata-Toulaye looks chic, modern and stylish in her fun, colourfully suit.

Chanel shoes completed her look.

They all look absolutely beautiful. What an incredibly proud moment for them all.
