Sweet Magnolias Heather Headley JoAnna Garcia Swisher

Sweet Magnolias is officially coming back for more margarita nights, drama, and romance on…drumroll, please: Thursday, July 20, 2023. Netflix made the announcement this morning (Thursday, May 25, 2023), which means we’re less than two months away from season three.

It’s been a long wait for fans (a little over a year, to be exact), who have been wanting answers to that season-two cliff-hanger ever since the beloved series starring JoAnna Garcia Swisher, Brooke Elliott, and Heather Headley was renewed back on May 4, 2022. The series—based on the popular novels by New York Times best-selling author Sherryl Woods—first premiered in May 2020 and quickly became the surprise hit of the summer. Season two premiered on February 4, 2022, and ended with a ton of shockers and surprises for the lives of everyone in Serenity. Now we’ll know whether Helen will accept Ryan’s proposal (um, no, she’d better not), what will happen to Cal, and just who is out to get Dana Sue.

Netflix has also revealed that the third season will consist of 10 one-hour episodes, and all will drop at once. That’s the same amount as seasons one and two. Sheryl J. Anderson will return as showrunner and executive producer, along with Dan Paulson as executive producer.

We also have three first-look photos from the new season, which don’t reveal much, but you know there will be plenty of fan theories!

JoAnna Garcia Swisher as Maddie Townsend and Heather Headley as Helen Decatur in episode 310 of Sweet Magnolias. Because episode 310 is the season finale, and Maddie and Helen appear dressed up and are looking at someone wearing a glitzy ensemble, could this be a wedding? And is it Dana Sue they are looking at? We’ll just have to wait and see.
