Jennifer Lopez is seen on July 18 2023 in Los Angeles California

The spring/summer 2023 shows delivered trends including underwear-as-outerwear and 17th-century panniers, asymmetrical cuts and a cacophony of textures. The standout shade? Bright red. And Jennifer Lopez, for one, was paying attention.

For a lunch outing with friends in Los Angeles this week, the Marry Me star was seen embracing the season’s most popular colour. She wore a floor-length halter-neck dress in a vibrant tomato-red shade, crystal-embellished Gucci wedge platforms (her signature shoe), and aviator sunglasses. To complement her look, J.Lo accessorized with a crimson Hermès Birkin bag, a scarlet Hermès Collier de Chien cuff bracelet, and a pair of silver hoop earrings by Jennifer Fisher.

The standout color for spring/summer 2023, red made its presence felt across the Big Four fashion weeks. In New York, designers like Wiederhoeft, LaQuan Smith, and Michael Kors showcased eye-catching red looks. London designers Feben, Karoline Vitto, and Dilara Fındıkoğlu all interpreted the hue for their collections, while Milan’s runways featured red designs from Prada, Ferragamo, and Moschino. In Paris, red was high on the agenda at Loewe, Valentino, and Stella McCartney.

In the months since, A-listers have duly been championing the fiery shade on the red carpet. From Jennifer Lawrence’s custom Dior gown and Catherine Zeta-Jones’s Elie Saab number at Cannes, to Salma Hayek’s red hot Gucci ball gown for the Met Gala, the colour is trending in Hollywood. But Jennifer Lopez’s casual day look proves the look-at-me shade is not just for awards season.
