Summer Do’s & Don’ts for Flawless Hair - Bangstyle

Summer is one of the most carefree seasons of the year. Whether you’re spending more days soaking up the sun or nights out with friends, a lot of the rules we usually abide by during the rest of the year are thrown out the window. While we love the spontaneity of the summer months, when it comes to your hair there are a few rules that should never be broken. To ensure you and your hair enjoy summer, Wella Professionals Brand Ambassador Briana Cisneros is sharing her top summer hair tips to combat frizz, breakage, and dullness, and increase luscious, vibrant summer hair.

Summer do’s & don’ts for your hair

  • DO stay on top of your hair masks and conditioning routines!
  • DON’T tie your hair up in elastic bands that damage your hair when wearing your summer top knot!
  • DO use heat protection before styling or even a product with UV protection.
  • DON’T brush your hair too much, try detangling as much as you can without one.
  • DO use a clarifying shampoo from time to time to help cleanse build-up of product and harsh chemicals from the water.
  • DO replenish your hair’s ends daily with a leave-in – moisture is a must and will definitely keep away unwanted breakage.
  • DO – Of course, live your best life but chlorine is terrible for your hair so make sure if you are swimming you’re taking the proper steps to protect your hair.

Common hair problems during the summer

  • Summer means good memories made by swimming and being in the sun! However, there are pros and cons to more sun exposure. Vitamin D is great in small doses and your hair can actually grow faster during the summer months however it might not really make a difference if your hair is just breaking off at the ends from dryness and chlorine exposure!

Prevent damage from common summer activities (i.e. swimming)

  • The best thing to do before swimming is to wet your hair completely then add a bit of conditioner and wrap it in a braid. This fills the hair strand up with fresh water and nutrients while protecting it all in a tightly wrapped braid!

How to fix common summer hair issues (i.e. frizz, dryness, and damage)

  • Being mindful and gentle with your hair is really what it comes down to. Knowing that summer is rough on your hair, treat it with a little more care (i.e., silk pillowcases, extra strengthening products). Don’t skip salon services and add-on conditioning treatments. Trying not to get it wet while swimming is a big one and rinse in cold water.

Additional tips and tricks for summer styles

  • Hats are always a great addition to an outfit while ultimately protecting your hair. The best thing to do is to not neglect it. We can get lazy with our hair appointments sometimes during these months, but the summertime is not the time to skip a trim and a conditioning treatment. And it can be a great time to even a gloss, like Wella Professionals Shinefinity
