Another day, another gorg Selena Gomez manicure.

Just one week after rocking jet-black nails at the Golden Globes, the Only Murders in the Building star wore yet another moody mani at the 2024 Emmys, proving that goth glam is having more than a moment.

Celebrity manicurist Tom Bachik created the custom “black cherry” look for Gomez using PLA Nails’ You Can’t Tell Anyone polish. A rich, deep purple eggplant, the shade matched her custom Oscar de la Renta gown (and its 450,000 sequins) and vampy plum lip perfectly.

As for how Bachik got the look? “We started off our look with a meticulous manicure, using the Tweezerman Rose Gold Manicure Set,” Bachik says. “Shape was super important today. We’re doing a custom dark color and wanted to pair with a strong natural oval-shaped nail to complement the pattern in the dress. By holding the smooth side of my Tweezerman ProFile at about a 45-degree angle while filing from side to center, it will automatically create that perfect shape.”

Next up was polish. Bachik started with a super-thin layer of PLA’s Black Gel Liner before applying a coat of PLA’s You Can’t Tell Anyone #190; the aforementioned rich, deep purple.

To create the deep cherry effect, Bachik took a small gel brush dipped into red chrome powder. “Starting down the center of the nail, I mixed the chrome into the wet gel polish and blended it out to the sides,” he explained.

To finish, Bachik applied a thick coat of The PLA Non Wipe Top Coat for depth and high-gloss shine. “This gives us a deep rich cherry red that shimmers in the light just like car paint,” he says.
