As the weather warms up, we’ve seen a few shoe trends for summer start to emerge—from maroon flats to ring sandals. But it seems leopard print shoes might overtake them all.

According to the catwalks, 2024 is undoubtedly on its way to become the year of the leopard. Its fur has been a common reference point among the spring-summer 2024 prints at Nina Ricci, Dolce & Gabbana, and Celine, among other brands. At Saint Laurent, the print was used to elevate a pair of patent leather heels. On a more comfortable note, Wales Bonner went with a twist on the esparto sole with crystal appliqués.

Bonner’s shadow is long, and thanks to her the most popular sneaker of recent years has also been printed with leopard motifs. The Samba sneakers that she updated in her collaboration with Adidas, as pictured below, are ones we’ve seen ad nauseam in street style and among insiders on Instagram.

But leopard print shoes aren’t anything new—the motif is actually a footwear classic. Ballet flats with this animal print have always been a constant. To style them for 2024, we recommend pairing them with wide jeans and a leather jacket to create that ideal balance of ladylike elegance and grunge.

Leopard print also works well with chunky shoes with a little platform, which go perfectly with an outfit in autumnal tones.

A version that is trending among fashion insiders is a flat shoe with crossed straps, as seen at Alaïa. Businesswoman Blanca Miró is one influencer we’ve seen with this type of shoe, which she paired with dark tights and a miniskirt in khaki green. Jeanette Madsen is another who has worn the style on Instagram (which, by the way, is already completely sold out).
