Our long national nightmare (five years without a Zendaya Met Gala) is over.

On May 4, Zendaya arrived at the Metropolitan Museum of Art with a brand new title, having been appointed as one of the evening’s cochairs by Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. This also marked the Challengers star’s first Met Gala since nailing the Camp theme in 2019, dressed in a light-up Cinderella gown by Tommy Hilfiger.

All this to say, Zendaya and her longtime stylist Law Roach had a lot to live up to this year, especially after serving one Met Gala-worthy look after another during back-to-back press tours for Dune: Part Two and her sexy tennis movie Challengers.

To the shock of absolutely nobody, they delivered. Not once, but twice.

In keeping with “The Garden of Time” theme, Zendaya arrived on the scene wearing a blue, black, and green forest scene by Margiela, with Law Roach not far behind in a black suit by the same label. The dark feminine trend was in, but nobody has done it like Zendaya.

The artistry is really in the details here, as Zendaya’s dress includes faux grapes, a bird on her head, a long feather in her hair, and a veil for a bit of mystery.

Her makeup look was dramatic as well, with her nails and lips wine red and her eyes smudged maroon. It’s reminiscent of the recent high-contrast beauty looks we’ve seen on the runway, especially Pat McGrath’s “porcelain dolls” which were, yes, for the Margiela show.
