The 2024 Venice Film Festival kicked off in style with the Venezia 81 Jury and Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement photocalls, showcasing a variety of looks from some of the most iconic women in film. Isabelle Huppert, Zhang Ziyi, and Sigourney Weaver all turned heads on the opening day.

Isabelle Huppert, president of the Venezia 81 jury, opted for a familiar label, donning a green croc skin print ensemble from the Balenciaga Resort 2025 collection. True to form, Isabelle served up no surprises with her choice, yet her look was still captivated.
Do I love this green croc print look? Absolutely. The fluidity and ease of the outfit perfectly encapsulate the autumnal vibes I expect to see throughout the festival. It’s bold, edgy, and undeniably chic—classic Isabelle. However, as much as I adore this ensemble, I am ready for something new from her in terms of labels. Even Balenciaga ambassadors Kim Kardashian and Nicole Kidman venture outside the label. Perhaps it’s time for Isabelle to experiment a bit more and surprise us with something unexpected.
Zhang Ziyi wore a stunning white Armani v-neck jumpsuit, perfectly styled with Chopard jewels and a Roger Vivier Très Vivier Panama hat. This look was effortlessly chic, showcasing Zhang’s impeccable sense of style. The simplicity of the jumpsuit was elevated by the luxurious accessories, striking a perfect balance between elegance and sophistication. Zhang’s choice was understated yet impactful, and I can’t wait to see what else she has in store for us this festival season.
Golden Lion For Lifetime Achievement Photocall
Sigourney Weaver graced the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement photocall in a look that left me wondering: Where has Chanel been all of Sigourney Weaver’s red carpet life? The pairing of Sigourney with Chanel is unexpected, yet it is proving to be a match made in fashion heaven.
I have always loved how Sigourney presents herself in classic looks, but this time, there was a twist. With oversized separates and menswear-inspired details like a necktie, “dad pants,” and brogues, her outfit might evoke a sense of Annie Hall chic. It was both fresh and timeless, embodying a sense of ease and elegance that only Sigourney can pull off.
With Virginie Viard no longer at the helm of Chanel as artistic director, I’m intrigued to see if Sigourney will step out in a custom Chanel Haute Couture look as she receives her Lifetime Achievement Award this evening. If this morning’s ensemble is anything to go by, we’re in for a sartorial treat.
