It’s been a whirlwind weekend for Selena Gomez, following the premiere and photocall for ‘Emilia Pérez’, with a string of events giving us a variety of looks. Here’s a breakdown of each of them.
London Screening
The reason why we didn’t see Selena at the premiere after-party with Zoe Saldana, is because she attended a screening held at Ham Yard that same evening. The real question is why she didn’t wear this red Rachel Gilbert Daria twisted off-shoulder dress to the premiere itself? While her Oscar de la Renta gown was undoubtedly more appropriate for the premiere’s formality, this red number was the superior choice in terms of impact and style. The look was paired with the same Chaumet jewels she wore earlier, and the same hairstyle, which most of you weren’t fans of the first time around.
Deadline Contenders Film: London 2024
On Saturday, Selena kept it classic and understated at a Q&A for her new film, choosing a charcoal suit paired with a simple black top. Some may argue that this outfit veered too mature or sombre for her, but I found it refreshingly sophisticated. The fit was flawless, highlighting Selena’s ability to pull off more tailored, grown-up looks. A sleeker hairstyle, like a ponytail, would have elevated the outfit’s minimalism.
Netflix Special Screening
Later that evening Selena attended another screening, this time wearing a look from the Erdem Spring 2025, which is proving to be the most popular Spring 2025 collection so far following Andrea Riseborough and Naomi Scott. I know many of you didn’t love the large patch on the sleeve which features the title page of book ‘The Well of Loneliness’ on Naomi’s look, so I anticipate a similar reception for it here. While it matched the masculine mood of Naomi’s look, it didn’t quite work as well with this flapper style beaded dress. But I like how Selena pulled different looks from the runway to make this look her own.
Netflix Awards Brunch
With London’s cold and rainy weather, Selena embraced the seasonal vibes in a Schiaparelli plaid skirt suit featuring quirky artisanal motifs like keyholes, shells, and gemstones on the buttons. The rich, cosy fabric was perfect for the occasion, and the overall styling was playful yet polished. Plaid season is in full swing, and this look nailed the balance between trendy and timeless.
BAFTA Film Preview and Q&A
To wrap up the weekend, Selena brought a touch of mystery in an all-black Elie Saab Pre-Fall 2024 pleated gown with abstract monogram cut-out details on the cap sleeves. Paired with a deep red lip and a sleek bun, this look felt sophisticated and elegant, with just a hint of whimsy.
