Taylor Russell graced the Venice Film Festival premiere of ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ with an outfit that certainly turned heads, but was it for all the right reasons?

Serving on the jury this year, Taylor made a bold entrance in a Chanel Haute Couture gown – which is a replica of the Spring 1993 gown – following up her previous appearance in a John Galliano suit for the photocall.

At first glance, there was a lot to admire about this dress. The combination of the bustle, the train, and intricate embroidery made for a visually arresting look that seemed to perfectly suit the grandeur of the festival. However, my initial intrigue quickly faded as soon as I zoomed in on the details and realised that the bustier was made of PVC.

Perhaps my aversion is personal, but I’ve always had a strong negative reaction to PVC, especially PVC shoes. There’s something about the material that doesn’t sit right with me—its tendency to cloud over time is a visual flaw I find hard to overlook. Although this isn’t apparent in the photos of Taylor on the red carpet, the mere thought of it taints the overall aesthetic for me.

Even putting my bias against PVC aside, I can’t help but feel that Taylor could have chosen a better gown as I’m not convinced of the fit. This dress needed someone with a longer torso IMHO.

Yes, it is unique and will leave a memorable fashion statement, but will it be remembered for the right reasons?

What do you think? Did Taylor Russell hit the mark with her Chanel gown?
