Natalie Portman made her second appearance on the red carpet for the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, this time she was supporting her new film, ‘May December.’
The Dior Beauty ambassador wore a Dior Haute Couture embroidered tulle Grand Gala gown, which was a special recreation by Maria Grazia Chiuri of the iconic ‘Junon’ dress designed by Monsieur Dior in 1949.
Much like the original design, the magnificent skirt of ombré petals, like abstractions of peacock feathers without their “eyes,” provides the talking point of this piece.
I’m sure many of you are glad to learn that this is a recreation, as the original design is currently a museum piece, and we don’t want a repeat of the Kim Kardashian Marilyn Monroe Met Gala dress fiasco.
If anything, this just goes to prove what a terrible, self-indulgent decision it was to wear such a historical piece, when a replica can be created with the same magic.
And what a magical moment it was.
I would go as far as to say, one of Natalie Portman’s best red carpet looks in Dior.
Why has she been holding out on us for so long?
Perhaps the clue is that she needed to dip into the archives.
Chopard jewels completed look.
If you’re having a case of déjà vu, it’s because Miley Cyrus wore a Zuhair Murad gown to the 2009 Oscars, which was inspired by the original Dior dress.
The designer was wildly criticised for this at the time.
