Here is a roundup from the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards which brought out some of the biggest names in music, but the red carpet was a mixed bag of fashion hits and misfires. From bold risks to uninspired choices, here’s a breakdown of the standout looks of the night.
Wilma Flintstone in Versace Vintage
Halsey made a bold entrance in a vintage Versace 1996 animal print dress that felt like a stylish homage to ‘The Flintstones’. Her two-tone black and red hair added a rockstar edge, while the diamond rings by Anabela Chan and earrings by Graziela provided the perfect amount of glam. This was a fun look that worked for her quirky style.
A Fashion Disaster
Tinashe’s attempt to impress Rick Owens didn’t quite land. The outfit was an unfortunate disaster, failing to make an impact in any positive way. From the poor fit to the lackluster styling, this look was a miss on more levels than I can count.
A bright light
In a sea of uninspiring outfits, Flo Milli stood out in a PatBO Butterfly tulle mini dress. The playful design gave us one of the more memorable looks of the night.
This Dress? Again?
Coco Jones looked beautiful in a sculptural organza silver design, but as I’ve said before, these Lever Couture gowns are starting to blur together. Aside from the striking colour, it felt too similar to what we’ve seen before. Her Stuart Weitzman sandals completed the look, but I’m ready for her to mix it up.
Hairstyle Misstep
Suki Waterhouse wore a Dolce & Gabbana look featuring a dramatic feather bolero, but she should have worn her hair back to balance the boldness. The hairstyle detracted from what should have been a chic statement.
Miles Off
Jordan Chiles’ Off-White Fall 2024 dress did nothing for her, and the overall styling, including the makeup, felt off. The look lacked cohesion and fell flat.
True to Form
As expected, Alessandra Ambrosio was stunning in an Alex Perry creation. While it wasn’t groundbreaking, the model knows how to work a sleek, figure-hugging silhouette, staying true to her classic red-carpet style.
Radiant in Red
Halle Bailey was a vision in a detailed, cut-out, embellished red dress by Sophie Couture. Styled with Jimmy Choo Etana sandals, she brought both elegance and edge to the carpet.
No Words
I literally have no words for Addison Rae in this Miss Claire Sullivan “design.”
